The Thunder take down the Mavericks in final minutes, 106-101

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been playing well lately as they have won six of their last seven games.  They will hope to grab a third straight victory as they battle the Dallas Mavericks tonight at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.  The Mavericks, on the other hand, are coming off of a 108-95 loss to the Lakers on Sunday.  Tonight will the first of three matchups between these two teams this season.


The Thunder and the Mavericks have played each other a grand total of 181 times in the past as the Thunder won 96 games while the Mavericks grabbed 85 victories.


Dallas Mavericks:

Both the Mavericks and the Thunder would play competitive basketball in the first half as the Thunder shot forty percent from the field while the Mavericks shot thirty-five percent.  Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 11 points while recording four rebounds, three assists, and one block.  Danilo Gallinari and Steven Adams combined for 12 points while Chris Paul was kept to just two points.  Dennis Schroder played the most minutes off the bench as he had 14 points.

On the other end of the floor, Luka Doncic got extremely hot for 23 points on forty-six percent shooting.  He was able to knock down to two three-pointers while grabbing five rebounds, dishing off four assists, and committing a steal.  Former Celtics’ Dwight Powell helped out with seven points while Maxi Kleber had two treys.  Seth Curry played 10 minutes off the bench but was held scoreless as the Mavericks went into halftime a tight 51-50 lead.

The Thunder would slowly take control in the second half as they went on a 56-50 run, shooting forty-five percent.  Paul made up for his poor scoring performance in the first half as he chalked up 15 points which included one three-pointer.  Gallinari contributed with 13 points while drilling three shots from beyond the arc.  Schroder played the most minutes off the bench as he had six points.

As for the visitors, Doncic added 12 more points to his scoring total while Dwight Powell and Dorian Finney-Smith combined for seven points.  Delon Wright had four points off the bench but it wouldn’t be enough as the Thunder defeated the Mavericks, 106-101.  Dennis Schroder finished the game with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists while Danilo Gallinari also had 20 points.  Luka Doncic had 35 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and one steal.

So…what’s next?

The Dallas Mavericks will host Spencer Dinwiddie (23.0 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 6.3 APG, 42.5 FG%, 30.0 3P%) and the Brooklyn Nets (16-16) on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.  This will mark the first of two times that these ball clubs will fight each other this season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will head to Texas to take on DeMar DeRozan (21.1 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 5.0 APG, 52.0 FG%, 26.3 3P%) and the San Antonio Spurs (13-18) on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.  This will be the second of four times that these two teams will see each other this season.  The first time they played each other was on November 7 when the Thunder fell to the Spurs, 121-112.  LaMarcus Aldridge finished that game with 39 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and one block while Danilo Gallinari had 27 points, 5 rebounds, one assist, and 2 steals.
