The Bulls come away with a 120-102 victory over the Knicks

The New York Knicks are one of the worst teams in the league as they are sitting with a 2-8 record.  They are coming fresh off of a surprising 108-87 blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Madison Square Garden.  With a 1-5 away record, the Knicks will hope to grab a victory tonight as they battle the Chicago Bulls at the United Center.

The Bulls, on the other hand, are dealing with struggles of their own.  They have only won one game at home this season as they hold a 1-3 home record.  Coming off of a 117-94 loss to the Houston Rockets, they will hope to avoid a second consecutive loss.


The New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls have battled each other a grand total of 266 times in the past as the Knicks won 120 games while the Bulls came away with 146 victories.


New York Knicks:

The Chicago Bulls would have the slight upper hand in the first half as they shot fifty-one percent from the field, holding the visiting team to forty-two percent.  Zach LaVine warmed up with 14 points, knocking down 3 three-pointers in the process.  Power forward Lauri Markkanen contributed with nine points while grabbing three defensive rebounds, dishing off one assist, recording one steal, and a block.

Wendell Carter also had nine points, along with four rebounds.  California-native Chandler Hutchison had five points which included a three-pointer in the second period.  Tomas Satoransky chalked up five points, as well.  Thaddeus Young played the most minutes off of the bench but was held to just two points.

On the other end of the court, R.J. Barrett earned 14 points on seventy-five percent shooting.  He also had two three-pointers while recording four rebounds, four assists, and one steal.  Both Marcus Morris and Julius Randle had 10 points each, both hitting a three-pointer in the process.  Kevin Knox played 16 minutes off of the bench as he scored five points but it was the Bulls who went into halftime with a 60-54 lead.

The Illinois ball club would take over in the second half as they went on a 60 to 48 run, shooting fifty-percent from the field.  Coby White played the most minutes off of the bench as he got hot for 23 points, hitting seven three-pointers all in the fourth quarter.  LaVine added 11 points to his scoring total while Carter had eight more points.

As for the Knicks, Morris chalked up 12 points, including two three-pointers.  Former Bulls player Taj Gibson gave eight points, along with three rebounds, one assist, and a steal.  Knox played 15 minutes off of the bench as he had five points but it was the Bulls who handed the Knicks a 120-102 loss.  Coby White finished the game with a career-high 27 points, along with 3 rebounds, one assist, and one steal while Marcus Morris had 22 points, 9 rebounds, one assist, and a block.

So…what’s next?

The New York Knicks will host Luka Doncic (28.3 PPG, 10.3 RPG, 9.1 APG, 48.5 FG%, 31.8 3P%) and the Dallas Mavericks (6-4) on Thursday at 8:00 p.m.  This will mark the second and final time that these two teams will play each other this season.  The last time they saw each other was on November 8 when the Knicks escaped with a 106-102.  During that game, Marcus Morris scored 29 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, dished off 3 assists, and committed one steal while Luka Doncic had 38 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists.

The Chicago Bulls will travel to Wisconsin to battle Giannis Antetokounmpo (29.7 PPG, 14.3 RPG, 6.8 APG, 58.5 FG%, 30.8 3P%) and the Milwaukee Bucks (7-3) on Thursday at 8:00 p.m.  This will mark the first of four meetings between these two teams this season.
