LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers were hoping to avoid their third straight loss as they hosted the New York Knicks at the Quicken Loans Arena. The Knicks, on the other hand, looked to capture their second straight win as they came off a 107 to 86 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. The Knicks would be without Luke Kornet, Isaiah Hicks, Joakim Noah (suspension), Ron Baker (ankle), and Mindaugas Kuzminskas. Michael Beasley (coach’s decision), Damyean Dotson (coach’s decision), Willy Hernangomez (coach’s decision), and Ramon Sessions (coach’s decision) would also be out. The Cleveland Cavaliers would play without Isaiah Thomas (hip), John Holland, London Perrantes, Ante Zizic, and Iman Shumpert (knee).
The New York Knicks shot forty-eight percent from the field in the first quarter while holding the Cleveland Cavaliers to thirty-five. Both Tim Hardaway and Kristaps Porzingis would score ten points each in the twelve minutes that they played. They both also shot fifty percent from the field each but Hardaway would collect three rebounds while Porzingis earned two rebounds. Courtney Lee chalked up five points and two defensive rebounds while Enes Kanter settled for four points and three defensive rebounds.
As for the Cavaliers, Kevin Love would put up eight points while earning six of them from beyond the arc. He also collected five rebounds as former Bulls’ point guard Derrick Rose was able to score four points with two of them coming from the free-throw line. J.R Smith ended up connecting for a three-pointer while LeBron James would settle for two points, three rebounds, and four assists. Jeff Green would come off the bench to contribute with two points but it was the visiting team who ended the first quarter with a demanding 29-19 lead.
The Cleveland team would look to respond in the second period as they shot fifty-nine percent from the field as a team while the Knicks shot fifty-five percent. James would start to warm up with seven points on seventy-five percent shooting. Love ended up with six points with four coming from the charity stripe. Dwyane Wade settled for six points off the bench in the ten minutes that he played.
Hardaway would continue to impress the New York team as he shoots a perfect one-hundred percent from the field to give himself fourteen points. He ended up connecting for two three-pointers in the process while Kristaps Porzingis chalked up seven points to go along with the three defensive rebounds he collected. Kanter played for eight minutes in the second quarter only to be held to three points but he did manage to grab five rebounds as the Knicks went into halftime with a 62-54 lead.
The New York team would go on a 30-21 run in the third quarter as they shot fifty percent from the field, limiting the home team to just twenty-seven percent. Tim Hardaway shot sixty-seven percent from the field while collecting eight points in the twelve minutes that he played. Porzingis would score seven points while Courtney Lee was limited to just one three-pointer.
LeBron James would play for the entire quarter only to be held to five points but he did drill a three-pointer while gobbling up three rebounds. Rose shot sixty-seven percent from the field as he earned four points in return. He was able to dish off two assists while Smith grabbed two defensive rebounds but it was still the Knicks who ended the third quarter with a huge 92-75 advantage.
The New York Knicks ended up finishing things off in the fourth quarter as they shot thirty-three percent from the field while the Cavs would shoot twenty-nine percent. Porzingis would still have something to say as he chalks up eight more points with six coming from behind the three-point line. Lee ended up shooting a perfect one-hundred percent from the field as he posts up five points, hitting a three-pointer in the process while pulling down four defensive rebounds.
Kyle Korver would play for the entire quarter as he puts up nine points, all of them coming from beyond the arc. He also came up with three defensive rebounds while Kevin Love collected five free-throws along with five rebounds. LeBron James played for ten minutes but was only held to two points, three defensive rebounds, and one assist. Wade was held scoreless in the five minutes he played as the New York Knicks easily pull away with a 114-95 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tim Hardaway finished the game with thirty-four points, four rebounds, and eight assists (tying his career-high). Kevin Love would end up finishing with twenty-two points, eleven rebounds, and one assist.
