The Boston Celtics crawl away with a 96-90 victory over the Miami Heat

Last night’s game between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat would mark the first of three games that these two teams play against each other.  This rivalry was somewhat renewed when Kelly Olynyk joined the Heat after being cut by the Celtics.  The Celtics would be without Marcus Morris (knee) and Kadeem Allen as the Heat would play without A.J. Hammons, Matt Williams, Derrick Walton and Hassan Whiteside (knee).

During the first quarter of the game, the Miami team would shoot forty-eight percent from the field while the Celtics shot forty-three percent from the field.  Goran Dragic chalked up seven points while shooting sixty percent from the field, connecting for one three-pointer in the process.  He also gobbled up two defensive rebounds while dishing off one assist.  Josh Richardson ended up playing for the entire quarter as he shot a perfect one-hundred percent from the field.  He scored five points in return as Dion Waiters collected five points of his own while grabbing three defensive rebounds.  Olynyk would score five points, as well, which included one three-pointer.

Rookie forward Jayson Tatum shot a perfect one-hundred percent from the field in the twelve minutes that he played.  He ended up receiving seven points in the process which three came from beyond the arc.  Al Horford would collect five points while grabbing three defensive rebounds and giving out one assist.  Kyrie Irving would play for eight minutes but was only held to a three-pointer while pulling down two defensive rebounds.  Marcus Smart was limited to four points as the home team ended the beginning period with a 26 to 21 lead.

The Celtics would respond in the second quarter as they shot forty-one percent from the field while the Heat shot thirty-eight percent.  Smart chalked up eight points while shooting seventy-five percent from the field.  He ended up connecting for two three-pointers in the process while grabbing one defensive rebound and dishing out two assists.  Kyrie Irving scored six points while collecting one defensive rebound and one assist in the eight minutes that he played.  Aron Baynes would post four points with two coming from beyond the arc while grabbing two rebounds.

As for the Miami team, Richardson would continue to impress as he chalks up six points on fifty percent shooting from the field.  James Johnson contributed with five points as he pulled down two defensive rebounds in the eight minutes that he played.  Bam Adebayo, Goran Dragic, and Justise Winslow would be held to two points each.  Kelly Olynyk was also limited to two points but managed to grab four defensive rebounds as the Boston team went into halftime with a tight 47-45 lead.

The Celtics went on a 27 to 18 run in the third quarter as they held the South Beach team to thirty-seven percent shooting from the field while they, on the other hand, shot fifty-three percent.  Tatum continued to impress as he added nine more points to his scoring total, hitting a three-pointer in the process of doing so.  Irving shot seventy-five percent from the field while receiving six points in return.  Horford played for eleven minutes only to be held to four points but he would pull down three defensive rebounds.

On the other end of the court, James Johnson shot fifty percent from the field while scoring five points in return.  He earned three of those points from behind the three-point line Josh Richardson would be held to just a three-pointer.  Former Grizzlies’ guard Wayne Ellington came off of the bench to drill a three-pointer while Dragic was held to two points.  Olynyk would play for four minutes just to be held to one free-throw while the Celtics closed the quarter out with a 74-63 lead.

The Miami Heat would attempt to come back as they shot forty-eight percent from the field while the Massachusetts team shot thirty-two percent from the field.  Former Houston Rockets’ guard Goran Dragic would heat up for eleven points on sixty-seven percent shooting from the field.  James Johnson collected six points and one assist in the ten minutes that he played while Olynyk would settle for six points and three rebounds.  Winslow was held to two points off the bench but did manage to pull down five defensive rebounds.

As for the Boston Celtics, Kyrie Irving would chalk up nine points which would include one three-pointer.  He also collected one defensive rebound while Jayson Tatum scored four points with two coming from the free-throw line.  Al Horford was held to three points and two assists in the eight minutes that he played.  Terry Rozier would come off of the bench to earn two points and two defensive rebounds as the Boston Celtics ran away with a 96 to 90 win over the Miami Heat.  Kyrie Irving finished with twenty-four points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Goran Dragic would finish with twenty-two points, three rebounds, and four assists.
