The San Antonio Spurs easily escape with a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, taking a 1-0 lead in series

Yesterday would mark the first game in the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies playoff series and it would also mark the first time the Gasol brothers meet in the Playoffs.  This would be the second straight time that the Grizzlies would face the Spurs in the Playoffs, as the Spurs defeated them last season, 0-4.  The Memphis team would look for revenge as each team would try to start the series off right in San Antonio.

The first quarter would start off right for the Memphis team as Marc Gasol drops eleven points, which would include one 3-pointer.  Mike Conley would also get hot for ten points, including two 3-pointers.  On the other end, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, Kawhi Leonard, would drop eleven points of his own which contained one 3-pointer.  But it would be the visiting team that ended the first quarter with a 30-25 lead.  The second quarter would start to look bright for the Texas team as they go on a 27 to 19 run.  LaMarcus Aldridge would start to heat up with ten points, shooting 50% from the field.  Tony Parker would also chalk up eight points, which contained two 3-pointers.  On the other end, Marc Gasol continued to put on a scoring display as he drops an additional fourteen points but it would be the Spurs who eventually grab a lead and walk into halftime with a 52-49 advantage.  The third period would belong to the San Antonio Spurs as they go on a large 32 to 15 run.  Leonard would go off for fifteen points, shooting 80% from the field.  Aldridge would also light the floor up with ten points, shooting 50% from the field.  Gasol would not give up on his team as he earns seven points, including one 3-pointer but it was the home team that entered the last period with a huge 84 to 64 lead.  San Antonio would close things out in the fourth quarter as Texas-native Jonathon Simmons would come off the bench to collect six points along with rookie Bryn Forbes, who earned five points.  The San Antonio Spurs would defeat the Memphis Grizzlies with a 111-82 victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.  Marc Gasol finished with thirty-two points, five rebounds and two assists.  Kawhi Leonard finished with thirty-two points, three rebounds and five assists.  Pau Gasol would be limited to only six points, which were two 3-pointers.
